Merry Christmas!

So.. for the last 27 days (everyday since Thanksgiving) I have shared a morning office ritual with another captain that works at the desk beside mine. Before we can sit down and check email or suit up for a convoy mission, we ceremoniously start each day by crossing out that day off the calendar which hangs on the wall behind our desks. After verbally congratulating each other for being one day closer to going home, we blast a random song from his comically extensive collection of Christmas music for the whole office to hear.

The songs are always a surprise and not always pleasant, but we have to play the whole song no matter how painful. The songs range anywhere from Elvis’s rendition of “here comes santa clause” to some eclectic house music that somehow manages to be classified in the Christmas category. This morning’s song was… disappointing. So I decided to play a song for everyone that was sure to spread the Christmas spirit. It was by a band that my dad would always listen to around Christmas time, and hence a song that was particularly special to me..

After the song was over, the lady who sits across from me (a government contractor in her mid 50′s) said “if I listen to Manheim Steamroller too long it makes me want to hit somebody.” hmm. Not really what I was expecting.. I’ve added another of their songs for full effect.. Don’t hit anybody!

I will resume exploring the theme of Purpose this coming tuesday.. Stay tuned
