Pathconscious is an attempt at understanding how human nature and our cultural environments each play a very big role in the decisions we make and the circumstances we end up in as a consequence. It seeks to shed light on how despite our best intentions we can still end up in undesired situations (in debt, overweight, divorced…etc). This is not a self-help blog, nor is it a 5 step solution to your problems or mine. It is simply an expression of my own curiosity and thirst for practical and applicable truth.

I did not initially intend for this site to be a Christian website but I guess that is what it is turning into. Originally I thought I wanted to create a site for young people struggling with the big issues that are inherent in growing up such as “how do i find a job i enjoy” or “how do i save money” or “who do i marry?” Then I thought to myself that if I focus on these issues, I am missing the big picture. You see, while your finances, career, and relationships are all big issues, they are still secondary to one really big issue: “what is the point of this life?” If we miss that, it won’t really matter if we had our finances straight or had a great job or married an amazing person. If we focus on these things to the exclusion of our life’s purpose, they become only distractions. I for one do not want the “worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth” to hinder my discovery of truth (Matthew 13:22).

Think of it this way. Isaiah 28:6 says that God “is a source of strength for those who turn back the battle at the gate.” Ask yourself, am I fighting the battle inside or outside the gate of my life today?  Am I encouraging others in their search for truth? Or am I struggling to overcome a death-lock of sin in my own life? Do greed and envy characterize my life? Do I think more about myself and my future than about those around me? These questions define where we are fighting the battle. God promises that if we call to Him, He will answer. Our goal is to be fighting the battle outside the gates.

As I currently serve in the US Air Force full time, my time is limited. Nevertheless, I will do my best to post at least one relevant and thought out article per week.  The articles I write are my best effort at breaking down and thinking through the important questions we all face and then comparing the answers to those questions offered by the world, the cultures we were born into, the word of God, and just plain ole common sense. For more background info, see the story behind this blog and short bio. I have written several foundational posts that explain a little more in-depth each of the lifepaths:

Finally, as you will find out, I don’t believe in all work and no play. As such, you will also find some seemingly unrelated but hopefully entertaining content here at pathconscious. Sidetracks is a section devoted to things that I enjoy such as travel and entrepreneurship as well as music that I like or even things that make me laugh.
